Features of Geo-Barrier Rockfall Barriers

  1. Ideal combination of strength, flexibility, and structural weight.
  2. The ring net evenly distributes impact loads across all structural elements.
  3. The residual height of the barrier after an impact with 100% of the design energy is at least 50% of its initial height.
  4. The cost of the structure is significantly lower compared to reinforced concrete structures.
  5. Can be installed in areas where the construction of massive structures is prohibited.
  6. Installation is possible in virtually any climate zone.
  7. The structure maintains fire resistance during forest fires.
  8. Individual structural elements are interchangeable.
  9. Quick installation without prolonged closure of highways and railways.
  10. The barriers are tested at independent testing grounds and facilities.

Flexible Barriers for Rockfall Protection

Protection of linear infrastructure, industrial sites, and various urban areas

Purpose of Rockfall Barriers

Geo-Barrier is engaged in the development, testing, and production of flexible rockfall barriers based on high-strength ring nets. Geo-Barrier rockfall barriers provide protection for people and infrastructure from falling rock debris in areas where the use of rockfall drapery systems is impossible or impractical for economic, technical, or aesthetic reasons.

Barrier structures are used to protect against rockfalls on linear infrastructure, industrial sites, recreational areas, and within city limits.

Operating Principle

Rockfall barriers absorb the energy of falling rocks through the deformation of the structure and crushable elements. The main elements of the barrier are flexible hinged posts and their foundations, a ring net panel, bearing ropes, kinetic energy dissipating brake elements, guy wires, and cable anchors with flexible heads.

Thanks to the combination of strength and flexibility, Geo-Barrier rockfall barriers can withstand impacts from rock blocks with energies up to 8000 kJ.

Configurations and Installation

For use on various slopes with different geological and geomorphological conditions, barriers are offered with maximum energy absorption levels of 150 kJ, 1000 kJ, 3000 kJ, and 8000 kJ. Depending on the height of the debris fall trajectory above the slope surface, the nominal height of the barrier can be 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 5.0, or 6.0 m.

The 150 kJ rockfall barrier is designed without top guy wires on rigid supports and can be installed in a narrow right-of-way.
